Five tips for
your first 5k

Take these simple steps to enjoy your big debut

A guide to running a 5k.

If you’re new to running, a 5k is the ideal distance to aim for - perfect for the urban runner and totally achievable. Here are five top tips to help you boss the distance:

1. Running doesn't have to be lonely, it should be something you enjoy. So call up some friends and start training together.

2. Measure up - when you first start running, 5k can sound daunting, but it really isn't. Map out your route to get a real feel for it. You’ll see it’s not so bad.

3. Be sure to build up to it, because no one smashes a 5k on their first go. Work up to it slowly, start by repeating 2-3 minutes running followed by 1-2 minutes walking for a few weeks beforehand.

4. Recovery is key - your downtime between runs can be just as important as the runs themselves, because your body needs to recover.

5. Enjoy it - this is the bottom line. Run for the fun of it and you’ll never look back.
